Vanilla Maceration Botanical Oil

Vanilla maceration botanical oil contains vanilla, which has been used as a food and medicine by the ancient Aztecs, and continues to be used in this way today.  It was traditionally used as a digestive tonic, to strengthen the stomach and core energies.  It has also been used as an antidote to poisons.  Because of it wonderful flavor and aroma, it is often used as a food additive and a flavoring to improve the taste of herbal tonics.

Vanilla has particular aromatic qualities, as it liquifies thick mucus and helps to expel it from the body.  It is also  known to be an aphrodisiac.

Vanilla maceration botanical oil combines well with most floral essential oils and absolutes, as well as citruses and wood oils.

Size:  5 ml or 30 ml violet glass bottle

Source:   South Africa

Production Method:  Vanilla bean pods are chopped and placed in glass jars with unrefined jojoba oil.  The jars are placed in the sunlight to macerate for a period of time, then strained and filtered.

Botanical name:  Vanilla planifolium

Note:  This product can be used as a flavoring. Vanilla is widely adulterated for the flavor and fragrance market, and real quality vanilla is rare.  Most of the vanilla produced is used in the creation of  alcohol based extracts.

There is a much larger demand for natural vanilla products than what can be produced in the world today, so many products are labelled “natural” vanilla flavoring, which contain only synthetically produced chemicals.  Ours is made with only freshly harvested vanilla beans and jojoba oil.  Nothing added, nothing taken out.

Observations and Anecdotal Information

I had been searching for another truly  natural, alcohol free extract of vanilla, for several years.  The vanilla CO2 extract that we used to carry was my go-to solution for bringing an uplifting flavor and aroma into everything from herbal tonics, children’s tonics, and even desserts!  But in 2017 we lost our producer for this rare product, and the world vanilla market had changed drastically.  Real vanilla extracts were priced extremely high, and most of them were adulterated or even completely misrepresented, containing varying degrees of synthetic vanilla flavoring.  I searched high and low to find another producer of real unadulterated vanilla CO2, without success.

When we found this South African vanilla maceration, I was delighted to have a new source, and hopeful that it would be as good as I thought it might.  Although it is not as potent as a CO2 extract, the vanilla aroma and flavor is present, in a milder form.  I am grateful for another opportunity to work with this sacred plant, and eager to offer it to others who are seeking the same level of purity.
