Peru balsam essential oil is sometimes used in the flavor industry, as it has a very appealing aroma and flavor, similar to a blend of cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. It has long been used as a treatment for anxiety and stress.

Inhaling this oil balances stress hormones, and relieves the exhaustion connected with a stressful state of mind. It can help transform emotional issues connected with the heart and heart disorders.  It can be inhaled and/or applied directly to the chest (in proper dilution), over the heart area for this purpose.

Peru balsam essential oil is one of the finest natural fixatives.  It combines well with many diverse blends and aromatic types.  It is an excellent addition to incenses, sacred perfumes, precious woods notes, high class florals, and balsamic blends.

Peru balsam blends particularly well with delicate floral aromas such as clover and nigella absolutes, rose absolute or otto, and jasmine, as well as the heavier florals such as champaca and ylang ylang.  It blends equally well with  resin and exotic wood oils,  florals, and many others.

Observations and Anecdotal Information

Peru balsam essential oil makes a very effective treatment for scabies, a skin condition caused by mites.  Its anti-mite properties have been used for generations in Central and South America where the tree grows.

It makes a fine chest rub or compress  for relieving coughs and congestion, due to colds.  It is also inhaled to expel congestion and excess mucus from the lungs and bronchial tubes.

Peru balsam essential oil is also used in natural dentistry.  Its pleasant flavor and aroma, combined with anti-bacterial and astringent properties, helps clear us gum infections and heal mouth lesions.

Another use for this oil involves a treatment for dandruff.  When diluted with water and then massaged into the scalp, it cleans away dead skin cells and helps eliminate dandruff.
