Balsam fir is the classic American Christmas tree. It thrives in cold climates, from northeastern Canada south to the Appalachian Mountains and west to Minnesota. Its wonderful aroma is synonymous with Christmas for many north Americans.
It is a powerful immune stimulant, helpful for all kinds of respiratory ailments including coughs, colds, flu, bronchitis, sinus and respiratory infections. It stimulates lymphatic drainage.
Used topically, it can heal cuts, burns, wounds and hemorrhoids. It is used traditionally as a hair and scalp stimulant, for regenerating hair follicles.
Balsam fir essential oil makes a fine massage oil, helping to relieve the pain of arthritis, backache, muscle and sports injuries.
