Shamama Attar Ancient Perfume Ingredient

$19.85

Shamama attar is made using agarwood, a famous healing wood derived perfume ingredient of antiquity.  It goes through a long and time consuming process of distillation over a ten to fourteen day period, which is a closely guarded secret by the family that distills it.

Agarwood is rare.  It is formed when a tree (of the genus Aquilegia or Gyrinops) is attacked by a fungus.  As the infection progresses, the tree produces a thick, dark, aromatic resin embedded in the heartwood.  This must be carefully harvested, then distilled in several stages.  Later it may be redistilled with a number of other botanical species, to create what we know of as shamama  attar.

Shamama attar has gained religious significance in ancient civilizations all over the  world.  It has been used as temple offerings, incense, medicine and perfume.

Energetically, shamama attar is known to be purifying, balancing, and to carry transcendent effects.  It can enhance the process of transformation, especially connected with spiritual growth.

It is often used as an incense offering to welcome the ancestors and spirits.

The addition of agarwood gives a rare, ancient and sacred dimension to the aroma, as only agarwood can do.

Medicinal uses of agarwood have been passed down in many eastern cultures and traditions.  In Nepal and Tibet, it is used to treat emotional, mental and psychological issues, and to bring the mind to a state of deep meditation. It is also used as a tranquilizer.

In Islamic, Greek, and Chinese cultures, it is known as a treatment for lung and respiratory ailments, throat problems,  digestive issues, and use as a sedative and anti-toxin.
