Observations and Anecdotal Information
Sweet fennel essential oil is a digestive tonic, so mild and gentle that it has been used (in highly diluted form) for infant colic remedies. It can be taken internally as a tea, or diluted in a tincture, to bring relief to indigestion, burping, gas, and stomach toxicity.
Fennel stimulates the liver and gall bladder to release bile. It improves digestion, relieves gas and vomiting, and calms the digestive system.
It has an estrogen like quality that can help balance hormone production, and is even helpful during childbirth to facilitate delivery.
It can be applied to breasts to relieve soreness associated with the menstrual period. It is known to increase lactation, relieve cramping, and induce menstruation.
Sweet fennel enhances detoxification from nicotine, alcohol, and drugs. It can reduce the side effects of detoxification.
It is also helpful in reducing cravings when one is recovering from a substance addiction, such as alcohol, tobacco, or recreational drugs. It can relieve headaches and other symptoms of withdrawal. It should be applied as a compress to the head or liver area, or inhaled, for this purpose.
