Observations and Anecdotal Information
For many years we have avoided purchasing sandalwood essential oil from India, knowing first hand the challenges of finding a reliable source of real and pure sandalwood. Santalum album is an endangered species in the wild, although it is also grown on plantations in Mysore, India.
Because sandalwood essential oil has been “bootlegged” and produced illegally to the extent of endangering the tree itself, we have preferred to avoid carrying it until we could find a truly reliable source.
The harvest of plantation sandalwood must be done only when the trees reach maturity, which takes between 12 and 40 years. As a result, we can only offer this oil on a limited basis, and we feel it should be used with great respect and consciousness of the rarity of this gift.
It is a fine addition to massage oils and oils for treating ligaments, nerves, tendons, and muscles. It can relieve the pain of sciatica and injuries. It strengthens weakened tendons, bones, and ligaments.
Sandalwood Indian essential oil is calming and regenerating to the digestive system. It can help diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, and heartburn, simply by applying the oil to the abdomen and softly massaging in a clockwise motion. It can also be used internally for these purposes, when properly diluted to a semi-homeopathic level.
Known as one of the master plant medicines, sandalwood’s aroma has numerous healing properties. It is calming and evokes a sense of presence and spiritual connection.
