Observations and Anecdotal Information
Labrador tea essential oil is made from the leaves of a low growing shrub found in the forests and tundra of the north. It is known by the Athabaskan people as “Ioke”, and is used as a tea for many illnesses, including liver congestion, endocrine imbalances, PMS, and menstrual issues.
It is one of the most regenerating essential oils for the liver and kidneys. It has been an effective ingredient in formulas for supporting liver health and recovery from hepatitis A, B, and C; and chronic liver conditions such as cirrhosis.
It is a very strong sedative, and can help with relaxation and insomnia. It is good for anxiety and stress, and should only be used when one is not driving or operating heavy equipment, as it can create drowsiness.
Cautions
This oil is generally regarded as safe at normal doses.
Avoid use for infants, while pregnant, lactating, or for small children.
Do not use when doing anything that requires full attention (such as driving), due to sedative properties.
Can be photo-toxic to some people. Avoid direct sunlight exposure for 24 hours after using it.
Keep all essential oils away from eyes.
Store in a safe place, out of the reach of children.
