Botanical Name: Vitex agnus castus
This essential oil comes from an herbal medicinal that has been in use for over 2,000 years. It is a powerful heart tonic, helping to strengthen the heart and cardiovascular system. It is best known for its wonderful hormone balancing properties. It is helpful for women with symptoms of PMS or menopause, and helps with moodiness, bloating, painful or irregular periods, and water retention.
It has also been found to relieve pain and reduce inflammation associated with fibrocystic disease. It balances estrogen and progesterone, and nourishes the pituitary gland. This oil is a true tonic oil, and can be used for long periods of time without creating non-beneficial effects. It should not be taken internally when using birth control pills, as it can interfere with them.
