Distillation:  Steam distilled from wild wood

Botanical name:  Santalum spicatum

Our sandalwood is distilled in western Australia from trees 30 to 60 years old.  Because the heartwood must be harvested, the trees give up their lives for the distillation.  It is important to find sustainably harvested  plantation grown trees for this distillation.

Sandalwood has many healing properties of a diverse nature.  It is a digestive system tonic, relieving nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and indigestion.  It is also an emollient, helping infections, wounds, burns, acne, and scar tissue.  It has been effective in treating muscle spasm, nerve pain, and sciatica.

Used as a spiritual oil for centuries, sandalwood quiets the mind and assists in achieving a meditative state.  It relieves guilt or ties to the past, and transforms isolation and aggressive tendencies.

What many people don’t know about Mysore sandalwood (Santalum album), produced in India and Indonesia,  is that it is now an endangered species.  All of the samples of this oil that were tested by an independent researcher, being marketed as pure 100% sandalwood, actually contained no real sandalwood oil at all!  This is one of the reasons we only offer Australian sandalwood.
