Distillation:  Steam distilled certified organic flowers

Botanical name:  Lavender augustifolia Grosso

The first time I purchased South African lavender, I opened the bottle and was immediately disappointed.  I could not fathom how the herb-y green, rough smelling aroma was going to ever smell like any resemblance to lavender.   At that time, I did not understand yet how essential oils modify themselves as they age.  I set the oil aside in my studio and forgot about it.

Some months later, my attention was drawn by the small bottle of South African lavender, which dowsed very strong for my client.  Curiously, I opened the bottle and inhaled–wow, was I surprised!  The most heavenly and vibrant lavender aroma filled the air, and I noticed the incredible level of life force present in this oil.

From that moment, South African lavender has been my favorite lavender oil for most applications.  It is not available every year, but when it is–I am ready to acquire it on a moment’s notice, as I know it will not last on the market for long!

Lavender, the true “universal oil”, is a gift from the plant world.  It is useful for so many conditions and purposes, including burns, cuts, wounds, skin and hair care, blood sugar imbalances, heart, nerve, and muscular pain, deep relaxation, and many others.
