Hyssop Essential Oil

September 17, 2010 | Posted in: Herbs & Essential Oils

Source:  Bulgaria
Distillation:  Steam distilled
Note:  Made from certified organic leaves and aerial parts.  (Decumbens variety is free of ketones, making it a better choice for children and sensitive individuals).

The common hyssop variety does contain some ketones, unlike the decumbens variety.   I find hyssop very suitable for inhalation to relieve respiratory ailments.  It is unrivaled in its ability to clear congestion from the lungs and bronchial tubes, and to ease coughing and respiratory distress associated with colds and flu.  It is such a powerful disinfectant that I like to use it (combined with other oils) in an inhaler, when traveling by plane.  The toxic exposure from recycled air is nicely counteracted by this oil!

It is helpful when clearing old patterns of unresolved grief, and can be applied to the chest or inhaled for this purpose.

  • Hyssop is a very old herbal remedy with biblical references.
  • One of the best mucolytics–liquifies mucus, helpful for pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.
  • Anti-infectious–colds, flu, viruses, bacterial infections.
  • Vaginal infection–use several drops on a tampon inserted overnight.  Test first with a tiny drop of oil to make sure you can handle the sensation.  Some people find it too intense.
  • Coughing relief.
  • Immune system enhancer.
  • Hyssop has anti-cancer properties–a drop or two added into herbal formulas can be beneficial for this purpose.
