Distillation: CO2 Select Extraction from wild cocoa pods
Botanical name: Theobroma cacao
Theobroma means “food of the gods”, and cacao has been used as a primary medicine, a food for delivering other medicines, and a food for ritual and enjoyment.
Raw cacao contains potassium, phosphorus, copper, iron, zinc, and magnesium; all of which contribute to a strong heart and cardiovascular system. It also contains phytochemicals which reduce stress, and has been proven in laboratory studies to significantly reduce stress levels.
In Centro- and South Americas, cacao has been attributed many healing properties, including relief from fever, anemia, poor apatite, mental fatigue, tuberculosis, gout, and kidney stones. It was also used to heal the nervous system, and tone the digestive system.
It is rare to find a pure extract, as most cacao is harvested to make chocolate. It could be a very nice aromatic for use in lip balms and cremes.
Despite containing caffeine, cacao is calming and relaxing to the mind and emotions. It carries many antioxidants that balance the effects of caffeine and actually make it a healthful food, depending on how it is prepared and what is added to it.
